If you are into doing your own thing homeschooling then you are into eclectic homeschoolingEclectic homeschooling is a hard to
pronounce word that basically means you teach your children in ways they
want to learn. You don’t join a online
school and follow a standardized
curriculum. You pick and choose You try to take the best of everything and mould it to suit your teaching method. It basically means you do it yourself. There are many different courses you like to try out so you do. You check out all the free samples and downloads and any program that clicks with you, you try. For teaching reading and writing I used a Montessori style program with sandpaper letters. I liked the program because you could modify it to follow any textbook. The course fitted in with my eclectic style of teaching which actually happens to be overlapping courses. I might use three different books or courses for the one subject.Another download I liked was the brain-e-games educational games ebook. Very good if you want to play games with your kids. Anyway if you do they will love you for it. Being eclectic gives you more flexibility to try new things to give your children the education experience that they should have. But you must still teach reading, writing and arithmetic and there are many resources available to help you. Other than these three the rest you can teach what your children want to learn. Ask you kids to pick the book they want to learn from and let them go. You’ll be amazed at how fast they can learn something they want to learn.
