                                                                          Homeschooling special needs

Many families are homeschooling special needs children as they don’t fit into the mainstream school system

If you can, and you want too homeschool your special needs child, then do it. Nowadays there is a lot of support for families who decide to

homeschool a special needs child and most of this support comes from families in the same situation. If you can get onto this website http://www.geocities.com/Athens/8259/special.html “Homeschooling Children With Special Needs” they have a list of forums and blogs that you can join. And support now mainly comes from blogs and forums so I recommend using them.

At home one of the first things to look at when homeschooling a special needs child is nutrition

As a number of learning disabled problems are a severe nutrition problem. I’ve looked into this and so should you. Don’t take my word for it. Check out Doctor Mercola’s website. He is pretty clued up on nutrition. One thing I do recommend is fish oil for summer and cod liver oil for autumn, winter and summer. There was an experiment in England where they put at risk primary school children on 6 capsules of omega 3 fish oil every day and the results were amazing. My daughter had problems and after the fish oil she was much better. But getting kids to drink fish oil can be a problem so get the orange flavored stuff. There are also connections between grains and problem so keep an eye on what your child eats.

Also I recommend the Montessori approach to teaching as she started out teaching learning disabled and special needs children. And her program was designed for special needs children but because it was so effective it was used in mainstream schools. As the Montessori schooling system started out as a way to teach special needs children it can still be used to teach special needs children.
