Why would you want tolearn the Gaelic language anyway? The Gaelic language
is a very old language and as
most young people don’t speak it much these days. I think the language
is on the endangered language list. So to save a language why not learn
Gaelic If your parents or grandparents speak Gaelic then that is a good enough reason to learn the language. Also if you are thinking of immigrating to Ireland or your company is going to send you there, it might be an idea to start learning Gaelic before you get there. And lastly why not learn Gaelic if you want to just visit Ireland for a holiday. As most of the young people speak English you will have to search out the older generation to practice your Gaelic skills. And even then most will understand English so you will have to force yourself to speak Gaelic and hopefully they will answer you in Gaelic not English. To learn languages like Gaelic you should start learning the language before going there, as this will give you a head start. And also this way you should be able to pick up more of the language when you are in Ireland. Even though Gaelic is not one of the major spoken languages there are still courses available that will teach you the language. When you are learning any language you must realize it takes time and effort so the more time you put in the more you will learn. Even if it is just listening to a tape or mp3 and reading aloud in Gaelic to try and get your mind and your mouth working together in the new language. Any adult who has learnt a second language will tell you it takes time so you have to put in the time to get the results. For a collection of language learning programs see our Learn Another Language Page.
