Why would you want to learn the Turkish language?

Well, for a start if your husband or wife is from Turkey then you might consider learning the Turkish language. And then again your children might want to learn their parents mother tongue if you already come from Turkey. Also if you are thinking of immigrating to Turkey or your company is going to send you there, it might be an idea to start learning the language before you get there. And lastly - why not learn Turkish if you want to just visit the country for a holiday. 

With some countries where they learn more than one language at school, you will find that some young people speak English. 

But you will still have many opportunities to practice your Turkish. This is a problem you will find in most of Europe as they learn many languages at school. People like us in the English speaking world don’t need to learn another language, as nearly every country tries to teach their children English. A rather limiting situation for people with English as a first language, because as there is no serious need to learn another language, we don’t. 

To learn a language like Turkish you should start learning the language before going there, as this will give you a head start. And also this way you should be able to pick up more of the language when you are there. Even though Turkish is not one of the major spoken languages there are still courses available that will teach you the language. 

When you are learning any language you must realize it takes time and effort so the more time you put in, the more you will learn. 

Even if it is just listening to a tape or mp3 and reading aloud in Turkish to try and get your mind and your mouth working together in the new language. Any adult who has learnt a second language will tell you it takes time, so you have to put in the time to get the results. Also if you intend to go to Turkey to learn the language you should consider getting an English Teaching Certificate so you can teach English there.
