Phonics worksheets are ideal to help your child while learning to read

Finding good worksheets on the internet can be time consuming so I just stick to this website here as they have a good collection of what I consider very good phonics worksheets. Phonics worksheets are pretty

good on their own but I like to do more with the same worksheet.

Doing more will help implant what the child is learning in her brain.

On the Tampareads website there is an excellent series of recorded phonic sounds and I get the child to listen to the phonic sounds that are on the worksheets. Also I like Montessori sandpaper letters as they add feeling to learning and I make up the phonic sound in sandpaper letters.

First I will have the child listen to the phonic sound while tracing the sandpaper letters, then I get the child to trace the letters while saying the phonic sound. After the child has finished doing the worksheets I will make up the completed word in sandpaper letters and have the child trace the complete word.

Doing all this with one phonic worksheet takes time but in the end I like to think the learning time is shorter as the child can retain more of what she has learnt in her mind. Phonics worksheets are really good but it is what you do with them that makes learning all the difference. A simple phonics worksheet can be turned into a new learning experience.

For more information about the phonics programs I recommend including a Montessori program with sandpaper templates and how to make them see our teach reading page.
