When you are looking for student homework help where do you go

Problems with your student’s home work pop up sometimes quite regularly so what do you do. If it is an urgent problem that needs to be handed in tomorrow I log into my account on tutor.com and the student has an instant tutor. This service is very helpful as most times you do not need to wait for a tutor. And it is all done over skype so its hands free to use your computer or write in your homework book, while you are talking to your tutor. 

The tutors know their stuff so they can usually come up with the answer. 

To help the tutor you must tell them the exact question so they can get to work explaining the correct answer. If online tutors are not for your student or the student's home work is not urgent, it is time to search the internet. Also when searching your results are only as good as the keywords you use. So in the search box type in the exact question, eg student home work help, you want answered and the search engine will give you a list of possible answers. 

What you do now will save you time. 

I go through the list and open the pages in a new tab or window. Then I look at all the pages and delete what is not relevant. This way I am left with a few pages that will have what I am looking for. The internet is an amazing tool but it can also be an amazing waste of time. So keep focused on the problem and don’t get distracted. 

Students are amazingly good at wondering off on a totally unrelated tangent so keep the screen where you can see it. That way you can check occasionally to make sure the students are actually doing their home work and not chatting on MSN.
