To survive the future you need community – you can’t do it alone. That means looking for a small town
somewhere that is not on a flood plain. With global warming and
You will also need land for growing vegetables and looking after animals. But the most important is community. You can set up a sustainable home nearly anywhere but finding the ideal community could take some time. I started off by checking out small villages and towns on the internet just to see what was available. For any town that looked promising I would check the census records for the town to find out how many people lived there. Then I would move onto Google Earth to have a bird’s eye view. Now I am not sure what the ideal size town should be.Some places with as many as 15,000 people looked very good while others with only 5,000 people also seemed okay. Now I am looking at smaller communities – around a 1,000 people to see if they are any good. I am looking to buy about 3 to 5 acres of land as that seems to be a manageable amount. Last year I did a tour of the towns I had
looked at but I am still undecided where to live. So I will do another
tour possibly next year and hopefully I will find a good place. I spend a
lot of time on the internet looking at properties that need to be fixed up
and pretty soon I am hopeful I will find one. For more
